Serum Institute of India plans to begin vaccine production outside India

The Serum Institute of India, manufacturing the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, is planning to begin vaccine production in other countries as it is finding it difficult to meet supply commitments, said the company’s chief executive officer.

Adar Poonawalla had said last week that the company would be able to increase its monthly output to 100 million doses by July, while the previous timeline was May-end. Several states in India are facing a shortage of vaccines against COVID-19. He hoped to enhance the Serum Institute’s production capacity to 3 billion doses from 2.5 billion a year within six months’ time, reported the Times… (Reuters, May 1, 2021)
